  Photography—Taking Quality Photos

Taking Quality Yearbook PhotosA good photo is both interesting and technically well crafted. Many factors affect the quality of a photo. Below are some quick tips to gather photos that are technically good:
  • The subject should be clear and sharp.
  • The photo should have appropriate contrast and color tones.
  • Avoid direct sunlight because subjects will be shadowed and individuals will squint. Colors and details will often look better with overcast lighting.
  • Always use a flash indoors. (You can add a flash or fill-flash when outdoors to reduce harsh shadows and add light to subjects in the sun or shade.)

Selecting Photos
Carefully choose the photos you submit to Lifetouch or upload to your online program. The photo quality will not improve when the image is reproduced in the yearbook. When selecting which photos to use for your yearbook, keep in mind that very dark or light photos will impact the overall quality of your printed yearbook pages.

When you submit your images to Lifetouch, follow these guidelines:
  • Original photos reproduce best.
  • Images printed with inkjet printers reproduce with varying results.
  • Photocopies or Polaroid® images do not reproduce well.
