Planning Your Yearbook—Recruiting a Yearbook Staff

Recruiting A Yearbook StaffStir up excitement around working on the yearbook and you will gather an enthusiastic staff. Get the word out to as many students and faculty as possible.
  • Host an open house in the yearbook staff room. Display past yearbooks, and use layouts in different stages to show how a yearbook is put together. Serve snacks.
  • Emphasize the value of participating on the yearbook staff for personal enrichment.
  • Encourage representation from different grades, skills and experiences.
  • Ask teachers to recommend reliable students.

Student Selection Process

  • Once students have expressed an interest in joining the yearbook staff, send letters inviting them to apply. Most students will feel honored and respond.
  • Distribute formal applications and require a recommendation from at least one teacher.
  • Interview prospective team members about their reasons for applying, time availability and commitment, and ideas for the upcoming yearbook.
